Building a Stronger Australia: A Climate Resilience Action Plan

Building a more resilient Australia

Australia is already experiencing the impacts of a changing climate. Communities across the country are facing more frequent and severe extreme weather events, rising insurance costs, pressures on infrastructure, increasing risks to homes and businesses, and growing uncertainty about what the future will look like.

Reducing emissions remains essential, however preparing for the climate impacts that are already locked in remains essential. To move this conversation forward, I am pleased to release this Green Paper on Climate Resilience and Adaptation.

The Green Paper brings together insights from experts, industry, community organisations, unions, First Nations leaders, insurers, and policy makers. It outlines the challenges Australia faces and proposes a range of policy options to strengthen our resilience to climate impacts. This paper does not present our final position, instead it's the beginning of a broader consultation process.

I invite you to read the Green Paper and help shape the next stage of this work by completing the survey below.

Have your say

With the release of the Green Paper, I want to hear from you. The ideas in this paper are intended to start a conversation about what Australia needs to do differently, what is already working and where governments should focus investment.

I am seeking feedback from Warringah, and interested stakeholders to help inform the next stage of this work and the development of a Climate Resilience White Paper.

Open the Green Paper

Australia is already experiencing worsening climate impacts, from heatwaves and bushfires to floods, storms and coastal erosion.

The Green Paper looks at how Australia can shift from responding after disasters to strenghtening investment and regulatory arrangements into preparedness and resilience.

It considers four pillars

  • Pillar 1: Legislative framework
  • Pillar 2: Funding adaptation
  • Pillar 3: Adapting the build environment
  • Pillar 4: Strengthening our communities and nature

This Green Paper is intended to start a conversation. Your feedback will help shape the next stage of Zali's climate resilience policy work.
