MEDIA RELEASE: Strong Community Turnout at Crows Nest Forum
27 February, 2025
Last week, Independent Federal Member for Warringah, Zali Steggall MP, hosted a successful Community Forum in Crows Nest, bringing together over 150 engaged residents to discuss key local and national issues
With a full house, the forum provided an opportunity for community members to ask questions and share their concerns directly with the Warringah MP.
Zali outlined her policy platform to: “focus on providing smart solutions that will have a positive impact for Warringah and Australia, concentrating on practical actions to make all communities feel safe, supported and strong”.
The Member for Warringah highlighted her positive track record in parliament since 2019 where she has played a major role numerous policies including driving action on climate change, pushing for the introduction of a National Anti-Corruption Commission, fought to lower HECs repayments for students, pushed for important small business reforms, and successfully advocated for improved parental leave entitlements.
On the local front, Zali and her team have engaged with more than 42,000 constituent enquiries since 2019. During this term Warringah has been the beneficiary of over $110 million in federal grants, a substantial increase* since Warringah became Independent.
Residents also had the opportunity to ask questions directly about matters important to them. Topics included, but were not limited to housing affordability, political integrity, climate resilience and the rising associated costs including insurance and local council levies.
Zali, who has introduced a number of private members bills to push for truth in political advertising laws reminded guests that it is still legal to lie in political advertising as the government is yet to bring forward its Electoral Communications Bill. She reminded attendees that as election campaigning heats up – don’t believe everything you see. She reminded guests, that with claims such as voting records or policy positions, it is better to go to her website or call her office to check the facts.
Following the success of the Crows Nest forum, Ms Steggall will be hosting her next Community Forum in Mosman on March 17 at 6.30pm at the Mosman Art Gallery, to register, visit zalisteggall.com.au/upcoming.
