“The decision by the Government this morning to place the Murugappan family from Biloela in community detention in Perth is abhorrent. I have been contacted by many Warringah constituents very concerned about the plight of this family. 

“I call for the Minister of Home Affairs, Karen Andrews, to urgently intervene in the case of this family and return them to the community of Biloela where they lived prior to their deportation and detention in 2019.

“The mental health impacts on the Murugappan family, especially the young children of being detained for three years without socialisation with other young families or children are significant. The decision to bring them to mainland Australia but then place them in community detention is hugely concerning.”

“The community from where they were deported would like to have them back.”
