New report reaffirms need for laws to protect our homes from escalating climate risks
15 April 2025
The Climate Council’s new report ‘At Our Front Door’ shows Australians are already feeling the high cost of government inaction on climate – and reaffirms the need for laws to protect our homes from escalating climate costs and build resilience in our communities.
Insurance premiums skyrocketed 32% nationally since 2022 yet the major parties lack the courage to develop policies or funding to plan for and protect our communities from the rising risks.
We must act now to reduce risk and support communities — or insurance will simply become unaffordable for too many Australians.
I’m urging whoever forms government following May 3 to urgently legislate my $10 billion Climate Resilience Plan and National Framework for Adaptation to ensure we have the policies and funding in place to defend our communities against growing climate risk.
