STATEMENT: Antisemitism Motion

4 February 2025

I welcome the opportunity to call out the dangerous rise in antisemitism. This must be called out in the strongest terms.

I strongly support the motion’s calls for a more constructive effort to combat growing hatred directed towards Jewish Australians in our community.

If we want to be a strong Australia, we need to foster a culture where everyone feels safe and respected, and not discriminated against.

We are stronger together. Strong leadership rejects hate and division and takes action to foster respect and understanding in our multicultural society.

As democratic representatives, we should strive to provide leadership on difficult issues and learn from history the danger of fostering division.

Australia has long been admired for its diversity and egalitarian spirit, and our ability to bring people together. We pride ourselves on our multicultural society, but too often we take it for granted.

I am both proud and grateful for contribution that the Jewish Australian community brings to my electorate of Warringah. They are a very welcome part of our diverse and multicultural community.

Social cohesion is fragile and needs constant protection. It is built through deliberate policies, respectful leadership and a collective commitment to value and understand each other.

Discrimination, vilification and hate of any kind has no place in Australia.
