Statement from Zali Steggall MP, Independent for Warringah:

"As Tony Abbott became more under threat during the federal election campaign we began to see an increase in funding announcements for the Warringah electorate. 

At the time the funding was welcomed by local sporting organisations but was seen by many as being well overdue, given Mr Abbott had been representing Warringah for 25 years.

There is no doubt that surf lifesaving plays a vital part in our community to keep us safe, and particularly in the Warringah electorate that includes some of Australia's most well-known beaches.”
