STATEMENT: Zali Steggall responds to NT Chief Minister Fyles comments on Middle Arm

Despite claims to the contrary, the only nonsense being spread about Middle Arm is NT Chief Minister Fyles’ description of the Middle Arm as a sustainable development project, when its key anchor tenant is Tamboran Resources who have publicly announced their intention to build an LNG export terminal.
It is utter hypocrisy, and reckless that in a week where the UN has issued dire climate warnings, the Chief Minister is defending the expansion of natural gas extraction.
As a member of federal parliament, it is incumbent on me to scrutinise the $1.5 billion in funding that has been committed to this project by the Albanese Government.
We must reject any move to allow further funding of fossil fuel projects, especially the Beetaloo basin, when there are so many other projects that genuinely will help communities in the Northern Territory.
