I am deeply saddened at the shocking and tragic loss of civilian lives in the recent Hamas attacks on Israel.
I unequivocally condemn the atrocities perpetrated by terrorist group Hamas on innocent civilians. My thoughts are with those killed and injured, those taken hostage, and all affected by the ongoing hostilities. These are horrific events. It is a devasting setback for both the Israeli and Palestinian people and I urge the protection of all civilian lives, and for the de-escalation of the conflict.
This is a very distressing time for many Australians, especially those in the region and their friends and families here.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking to confirm the welfare of Australians in affected areas and urges Australians in Israel and Gaza to contact their loved ones in Australia to confirm their safety.
