Updates from Warringah and Parliament
30 September 2026

Hello and welcome to my parliamentary update for September plus news and events in Warringah.
There’s been plenty happening in Parliament and across our community over the past few months. Thank you to everyone who continues to reach out, share your ideas and help shape the work I do.
Households continue to feel the pressure of the cost of living and interest rate rises. I’ve been pushing for practical measures to ease financial stress and improve productivity, so Australian families and small businesses aren’t left carrying the burden alone.
In Parliament, I’ve been focused on climate resilience, disaster preparedness and truth in political advertising, while continuing to advocate for practical action on domestic violence including stronger protections for women and children.
Closer to home, it has been wonderful to connect with people from across our community. That includes hosting Warringah’s Youth Voices Forum, where young people came together to share their ideas and perspectives on the issues shaping their future.
We’ve celebrated exciting local milestones, including the opening of the redeveloped North Sydney Olympic Pool and the unveiling of Nganga Ngurra, a beautiful new mural at Brookvale Public School celebrating connection to Country, culture and community.
There is plenty more happening across Warringah, with community events, practical resources and opportunities to get involved. I look forward to seeing many of you out and about over the coming weeks.
As always, thank you for your continued engagement, ideas and support.

Parliament Update
Zali moved to suspend standing orders to debate urgent action on Australia’s domestic violence crisis. She called for better tracking of government policy progress, stronger protections for women and children and properly funded frontline services. She highlighted pressure on local refuges, including Mary’s House, which declined 176 accommodation referrals in 2025–26 due to a lack of vacancies.
On the International Day of Democracy, Zali moved to force debate on her Truth in Political Advertising Bill. Australians should be protected from false political claims and AI deepfakes. Her bill would require truthful political advertising, clear disclosure of substantially AI-generated content and independent oversight. Parliament must act urgently before the next election.
Zali was honoured to meet Tuvalu Minister for Climate Change and Environment Maina Talia and Canadian independent Senator Rosa Galvez. They discussed how the Albanese government’s support for fossil fuel expansion undermines its climate promises.
In the House, Zali spoke on the health risks of gas, the impact of extreme weather on vulnerable communities and how renewable energy can help homes and businesses to cut emissions and lower bills. She also called for greater investment in disaster readiness, including practical education and stronger support for communities facing heatwaves, bushfires and other climate risks.
