Zali Steggall MP responds to Sydney Harbour Trust funding

MEDIA RELEASE

Zali Steggall OAM MP welcomes the Harbour Trust funding announced today by the Environment Minister Sussan Ley.

“Following extensive consultation and engagement with the community, my team and I are ensuring that Warringah’s concerns are being heard. Warringah should feel proud of this outcome,” she said.

“I have been speaking in Parliament about the importance of the Harbour Trust sites and on the day the Trust Review was released I met with the Minister to discuss the recommendations and the best way forward.

“My team and I also attended the consultation nights and letterboxed residents encouraging them to make a submission to the Government’s review of the Trust.

“This additional funding of $40.6 million will address the urgent repairs needed for North Head Sanctuary and 10 Terminal.

“More funding, however, is needed to ensure the sites are properly rehabilitated, maintained and activated for the benefit of our community. It is the first step forward in full activation of North Head Sanctuary and 10 Terminal.

“I pledge to the people of Warringah to continue advocating for full funding and protection of these sites.

“I will continue to work with the Environment Minister, the Harbour Trust and the NSW Government to safeguard these important areas. People of Warringah can see the impact and results of being informed and involved on such local issues.”

Headland Preservation Group’s Jill L'Estrange has thanked Zali for her advocacy work in the conservation and preservation of Trust lands.

“HPG has always welcomed Zali’s support in its endeavours to ensure that Trust lands are protected for future generations of Australians and in particular, for her support in our vision for the restoration of 10 Terminal in becoming a world class indigenous, military and environmental interpretation centre,” Ms L'Estrange said.
