Zali Steggall OAM MP awarded prestigious 2022 Missen Integrity Award

5 September 2022

Zali Steggall OAM MP was today presented with a Missen Award at the 2022 Accountability Round Table Integrity Awards.

The Award, presented by ART Chairman Prof Spencer, recognised Zali’s “strong advocacy for a stronger-action on climate change in the 46th Parliament and introducing draft legislation”.

In receiving the award Steggall said: “Thank you for the incredible honour of being recognised for this Award. Like many of my fellow Independents, we represent communities who want to see politics done differently.  For us, and myself, a big motivator in coming to parliament and picking politics as a new career was to pull back the curtain on what happens in parliament.

“Democracy is a participatory process it’s important to be a part of it.  It’s a great honour to represent Warringah and to work with fellow independents and other parties around increasing awareness for climate action and pushing for a bill to legislate for a clear framework, increasing awareness around integrity and supporting Helen Haines push for a federal integrity commission and presenting legislation for truth in political advertising.

“These are all things that communities want to see happen”.

Following the ceremony, Zali extended her congratulations to fellow award recipients, Helen Haines MP, Rex Patrick and the Hon. Andrew Leigh MP.

The Missen Awards (for Crossbenchers and Backbenchers) and Button Awards (for Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Shadow Ministers) are awarded to MP’s and senators who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the public interest in performing their role with honesty, civility, independence and/ or Political courage in one or more of the following:
